When entering the actress’s house Pamela Palacios two little ones with golden hair welcome the team of this Dnevnik with the sweetest smile. “Hi, I’m Junior,” says one of them as he prepares to master a new level of Mario Bros. on the cell phone his mom lent him. There is not a single toy in place to obstruct the passage, Palacios declares himself a complete ‘theme’ on command and picks up every object he finds on the floor.
There are four children in total: tabata, 24 years; axle, 21 years old; junior, 5 years; and Daphne, 2 years. They are his life, engine and inspiration. “They definitely fill my life. are them They drive me to become a better human being, to be a better person, to be a better daughter and to be a better mother.” declares Palacios, who at the age of 44 wonders if she is playing her role as a mother well.

He debuted in this role at the age of 18, when Tábata was born. Since then, she says, she has learned with each one because each pregnancy was completely different. “Each one had its own magic, I discovered different things with each one…”, he says.
But on November 24, 2020, his life definitely turned around, their youngest daughter Daphne was born with Down syndrome, a genetic condition that had already been diagnosed earlier along with her maternal instincts.
She says that she barely held her for a few minutes that day because they had to quickly take her to the incubator and there spent 15 days in intensive care, the saddest thing Palacios experienced, who just longed for her daughter to stay alive, “in whatever condition she is.”
When she confirmed her little girl’s syndrome, she thought about all sorts of things, but one of the questions that was on her mind was: “What will I do with my career?” He admits that at that moment he thought of leaving the tables, because he felt that he was entering a dimension full of uncertainty and questions. “I thought I had to shut myself up at home to raise a girl with Down syndrome.”
Daphne’s existence in his life meant a different kind of learning. “I read a lot, I prepared a lot, I learn every day how to treat a child with this condition”he says.

Remember that 2020 was difficult for her, not only because of the challenges of the pandemic, but also because it was the year her father passed away, she faced other personal problems and had to be okay with her family: remember that he ‘swallowed his tears’ many times so as not to be discovered by one of her children. Mothers have supernatural power, he says with conviction. “I believe that power definitely comes from God and we draw strength where there is none… because within my capabilities it was impossible to sustain so many emotions.”
Her mother, her friends (she names Maricela Gómez and Maluli Valdivieso, among the people who supported her at all times) and her children have become her greatest strength at this moment. And although at first he kept the diagnosis a secret out of fear, he repeatedly reproached: “Why me? Why my daughter?”. He realized something, that his golden-haired girl is an angel sent to him by God, and now he sees her only as a blessing that fills his days with light and that sends him a message every day: appreciate life.
mother and artist
Ever since Daphne entered his life, the Palacios’ house had become something of a theater rehearsal room. She assures that she tries to do as many work tasks as possible near her children, in order to respond to emergencies at the last minute. Before every theater performance, he tries to leave them bathed, changed and ‘told’.
With more than 25 years of artistic career, she knows that all this ‘partying’ is worth it, she does not change her role as a mother, as well as the role she performs on stage. “Vibrating with people is magical… I’m not changing this emotion,” declares the artist, recalling the last character in the work Replacement.
This is how Palacios works as much as possible to maintain a balance between being an artist and being a mother.
