His career has slowed down, but Johnny Depp returns to the cinema. He cast Al Pacino – there is also a Polish thread

Johnny Depp’s Hollywood career was in jeopardy after his divorce from Amber Heard. The last film in which he starred premiered in 2020, and the actor himself moved from the USA to Europe. However, he does not give up his professional work. Shooting on the set of the film, which Depp will direct, is to start in autumn – there are strong Polish accents in the project. What’s more, the cast included Al Pacino.

has gone through a serious image crisis, so it’s hardly surprising that he hasn’t worked on any high-profile film project in recent years. Since the high-profile divorce, the actor has kept to himself, although this does not mean that he lacks activities. Depp, among others he participated in the dubbing of the cartoon “Puffins”, he also played in the costume drama “The Mistress of the King” – the actor played the role of King Louis XV in it, and the production is waiting for the premiere. Besides, he also had time to focus on his musical career. In the autumn, however, he returns to the film set – this time as a director.

Johnny Depp cast Al Pacino in his film

Johnny Depp will direct a biopic about the Italian painter Amadeo Mogigliani. The production is to be called “Modi” and will be Depp’s first directorial project after a 25-year break. Shooting is set to begin in the fall in Budapest, and the names of the first cast members have just been announced. It’s a really strong composition.

The legendary Al Pacino will play at Depp, and he will be accompanied by excellent European actors: the Italian star Riccardo Scamarcio, known for example from the second part of “John Wick”, and Pierre Niney, awarded the French Cesar, reports the portal. Soon we will also find out who else will take part in the film .

Polish accents of Johnny Depp’s new film

Interestingly, the project has a strong Polish theme. Well, the script was based on a play by Dennis McIntyre, and was adapted for the big screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. Kromolowski is a writer, screenwriter and director. Born in 1953 in Poland, he is known for his screenplays for such films as Chase in the Fog and The Promise. The plot of his new film will focus on the Parisian and groundbreaking episode in the life of the Italian artist, which happened in 1916.

The action is to take place over the course of 48 hours full of twists and chases: the painter will run from the police and maneuver between the city streets and suspicious bars. On his way, he is to meet the French artist Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine born in Belarus and his lover and muse – Beatrice Hastings from Great Britain. What’s more, Modi will also ask for advice from his Polish friend and art dealer, Leopold Zborowski. The chaos is about to culminate when the painter meets an art collector who could change his life. Al Pacino is set to play the art collector Gangnat.

The film will be produced by Barry Navidi, who previously worked with Al Pacino on such productions as “The Merchant of Venice”, “Wilde Salome” and “Salome”. The producer emphasizes: “This is a project Al and I have been chasing for many years. Our amazing cast combined with the vision, wit and vulnerability that Johnny brings behind the camera is a dream come true.” This won’t be Pacino’s first professional meeting with Depp either – both previously starred in the film “Donnie Brasco”. Nicola Pecorini will be the cinematographer on the set of “Modie”, Andrew Sanders and John Beard will be responsible for the set design, and Penny Rose, known for her work on “Pirates of the Caribbean”, will be responsible for the costumes.
