Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia Shepherd (first in “Private Practice”, now in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19”), went through some really traumatic moments. The fire happened while she was at home with 3-year-old Arwen Lucinda nicknamed “Lucky”, 6-year-old Paloma nicknamed “Pippa” and 10-year-old Eliza with her ex-husband Rob Giles. As my kids were getting ready for bed and finishing their bath, smoke started coming up through the grout around the tub. As I looked down the hall, a river of thick black smoke had already formed and filled the house.

“I had about two minutes to get my three children out of the house and escape with less than shoes on my feet,” recalls the Canadian actress and emphasizes: “But we got out. And for that I am eternally grateful.” She adds that, unfortunately, none of the four animals that lived with the family could be saved from the fire, and above all she thanked everyone who helped them put out the fire, and also after it.
Scorsone began her career as a child, as an adult she appeared as Amelia Shepherd in 2010 and the writers wrote two out of three pregnancies in the plots of “Private Practice” and “Grey’s Anatomy”. The actress speaks loudly and supports families that include children born with the syndrome. Down Syndrome and other cognitive disabilities since the birth of her second daughter, Pippa, who was born with Down Syndrome and received the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation in 2020 for her work.
Grey’s Anatomy debuted on ABC in 2005 and initially focused on five interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. Among them was Meredith Gray, who was played by Ellen Pompeo all these years. The actress decided to say goodbye to the production only in the middle of the 19th season.
