A few days ago, Koroluk reminded on Twitter that Sławomir Mentzen announced 100 bills in 2019. They included, among others, a 10-year prison sentence for abortion, as well as a proposal to “extend freedom of speech”. The idea of introducing “indissoluble marriages” probably aroused the greatest interest.
Sławomir Mentzen: I would like the state to give me such an opportunity
The politician was recently a guest of Radio ZET. In Bogdan Rmanowski’s broadcast, he spoke about a controversial idea from a few years ago. Among other things, Mentzen stated that he would like the state to offer the possibility of “indissoluble marriage”. – You have been advocating for the introduction of the possibility of the so-called indissoluble marriage. What would that be? asked the journalist.
According to the politician, such a solution would increase the possibility of choice. – At this moment, for example, I would like to enter into a marriage with my wife that is indissoluble – just as my church marriage is indissoluble with her. I don’t have that option. A church wedding is ok, but I would like to have a civil wedding for that, but I can’t. I wish the state would give me that opportunity. It is an increase in choice, it is a libertarian proposition – Menzen said.
Mentzen’s Indissoluble Marriage. What does this mean in practice?
In the description of Act 104. “Introduction of the possibility of concluding an indissoluble marriage”, we can read: The draft introduces the possibility of submitting to the Head of the Registry Office an irrevocable declaration of making the possibility of divorce subject to the consent of the diocesan bishop before the marriage is entered into. According to this solution, the couple before the wedding could declare in the office that she will never divorce without the bishop’s permission. The declaration would be irrevocable and binding on the state, and divorce would require a canonical judgment stating that the marriage was invalid from the beginning. – An ordinary, secular family court could not, for example, grant a divorce to a wife who made a god-fearing declaration at the Registrar’s Office before the wedding and now wants to leave her violent husband (or vice versa) – explains Gazeta.pl journalist in her article.
