“I felt like I was drowning, with my head below the surface.” Ed Sheeran cries and announces an important movie

2022 was an extremely difficult year for Ed Sheeran. The death of my closest friend, the illness of my wife and a trial for plagiarism. One of the most popular musicians in the world gave the first extensive interview in five years, in which he talked about his struggle with depression. – I’ve always had deep lows in my life. But it was only last year that I took care of it – confesses the singer. A documentary about the artist’s life will also premiere soon, whose moving trailer we can already see.

The 32-year-old singer began recording his first songs in 2005, but six years later he released his first studio album “+”, which opened the door to his international career. Since then, he has been one of the most listened to artists in the world, and tickets for his concerts sell out in the blink of an eye.

February 2022 – the worst month of Ed Sheeran’s life

But all this time, Ed Sheeran’s life wasn’t all roses. The worst period was in February 2022, when three unpleasant situations accumulated for him. The first is the news that his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumor when she was six months pregnant. The woman could not be operated on until after the birth of her daughter Jupiter in June.

At the same time, the singer’s longtime friend Jamal Edwards – an entrepreneur and music producer, about whom Sheeran has repeatedly said that he owes the development of his career to him, also passed away. The man was a peer of the singer and died at the age of only 31. The cause of death was drug-induced heart problems.

In addition, the artist faced a court after being accused of plagiarism in the case of the song “Shape of You”. Ed Sheeran recently gave an interview to “”, which is the singer’s first such effusive conversation in five years. In it, he directly addressed the matter:

I’ve been called a thief and a liar

Ed Sheeran straight on depression and therapy

The singer confessed that these events left a mark on his mental health. “Within a month, my pregnant wife found out she had a tumor, with no treatment option until she gave birth. My best friend Jamal, my brother, died suddenly and I was brought to justice defending my integrity. I was in a spiral of fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, with my head below the surface, looking up, but unable to break through for air,” said Ed Sheeran. It was only then that he realized he had to do something about it:

I’ve always had deep lows in my life. But I only got into it last year

However, it was his wife who convinced him to go to therapy. As he explained in an interview with an American magazine, in his homeland it was not perceived as something normal:

Where I come from, no one really talks about their feelings. In England, people think it’s weird to have a therapist. I think it’s very helpful to be able to talk to someone, let out your feelings and not feel guilty about it. ‘Cause I live, of course, a very privileged life, so my friends always looked at me like ‘it’s not that bad’
