Awanturka is a fish paste known throughout Poland. It is made of canned, smoked or tinned fish and cottage cheese. Each housewife had her own proven recipe. During communism, sprats or canned sardines were most often used.

It is easy to prepare and even an inexperienced cook can handle it. It tastes best with bread or crackers. You can sprinkle it with dill or eat it with lettuce or juicy tomatoes.
Ingredients:
- smoked mackerel,
- two pickled cucumbers,
- half-fat cottage cheese,
- ,
- pepper,
- a bunch of parsley,
- hot pepper powder,
- spoon of mustard,
- spoon of mayonnaise.
Peel the skin off the mackerel and separate the bones. Peel and chop the onion, dice the cucumber. Combine the fish with the curd. Chop a bunch of parsley. Add all the chopped ingredients to the fish, mix, then add the mayonnaise and mustard and mix again. Season to taste with paprika and pepper.

Herrings with onions. Recipe for a dish straight from the People’s Republic of Poland
Another popular dish from the times of the People’s Republic of Poland is. It is present on our tables on weekdays, but especially during parties or holidays. Preparing this dish should not cause any major problems even for novice cooks.
Ingredients:
- 6-8 fillets à la matias,
- lemon,
- 6 grains of allspice,
- 2 onions,
- a glass of sunflower oil.
Herrings should be soaked so that they are not very salty, and then cut into rings. Peel the lemon and cut it into slices. In a jar or other dish, put several layers in the following order: herring, lemon, allspice and pour oil. We leave it for 2-3 days. Before serving, chop the onion and sprinkle it over the dish.
