In one of the last interviews, Jenna Ortega revealed the backstage of working on the hit series. The actress in Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast told about the changes she insisted on because she wanted her character to be as credible as possible.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had to behave on any set like I did with> – it’s so easy to fall into a drawer, especially in the case of such series” – she began to explain and confessed:

There were moments on the set where I became downright unprofessional in the sense that I started changing my lines.

“The script supervisor thought I was going somewhere, so I would sit down to talk to the writers and they would ask: Wait, what happened to this scene. Then I had to explain to them exactly why I couldn’t do certain things,” she described her motivation.

“Everything she does, everything I had to play, was very much inconsistent with the character. That she was in a love triangle. That there was a line about the dress she’s supposed to wear to the prom and she’s like, ‘Oh my god. “I love her. I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself for it. I had to say there’s no way I’m going to play it” – a famous example. According to many viewers, the intervention of the actress really saved the series from falling into embarrassing ridiculousness.

She also told Dax Sheparod that she feels very protective of Wednesday, which creates some difficulties: “You can’t play the lead role and not have any emotional thread because it gets boring and nobody likes you. And Wednesday is a teenager,” she explains. She also admitted that she left the production plan unsure whether the series would convince viewers. “I can’t watch my scenes, but I can come home from the set and tell myself that a particular scene seems to be successful.>there wasn’t a single scene where I went home and told myself it should be okay,” she described her doubts.

Ortega also described the backstage of the famous dance scene. “Originally it was going to be a flash mob. The plan was for her to start dancing and then everyone was going to pick up on that and start dancing with her. And that’s what I questioned – why would Wednesday be OK with that? I said we either do a cut, or Wednesday will have to knock someone out and then it’ll be over.” The happy creators listened to her advice. Moreover, the actress will be one of the executive producers of the second season.
