El¿bieta Jaworowicz has been appearing in “The Case for a Reporter” for 40 years. He approaches many of the problems presented in the program personally. However, not everyone knows that journalism has not always been her passion.

Poles know her first of all as the host of the TVP intervention program “Sprawa dla reportera”, which has been broadcast on the air with breaks since 1983. This means that she has been on the screen for 40 years. Privately, she is the wife of Col. Eugeniusz Mleczak. Jaworowicz is often associated with a strong personality and charisma, but for some time now some have accused the woman of a lack of objectivity and using the problems of the characters shown in the production to generate publicity. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that he is an icon of Polish journalism. However, not everyone knows that the chosen professional path was not her dream in the past.

The beginnings of Elżbieta Jaworowicz’s career. “Journalism was not my passion then”

Elżbieta Jaworowicz is reluctant to give interviews, so few people know what she did before she started working on television. It turns out that she came to Warsaw for the first time when she was taking her university exam. – I remember that day perfectly. It was my first, maybe second contact with the big world. I’m here to take the math exam. I sat down in the room and started admiring these colorful, self-confident young people…. I felt provincial, but later I understood that the province is in us and does not depend on the place of birth – she said in 2008 in an interview with Iwona Havranek for .

After graduating from Polish studies, Jaworowicz did not want to leave Warsaw and decided to apply for journalism, which initially was not her passion. “I was well-read and maybe not stupid. I knew that I had to break out into another world… Just like that, I couldn’t stay in Warsaw, because I didn’t have support. I couldn’t get a job or check in. The Institute of Journalism offered a certain chance, although journalism was not my passion then… It wasn’t easy.

Jaworowicz made her screen debut while still a student, when she took part in one of the competitions organized by the youth TV program “Telewizyjny Banku Młodych”, which was broadcast in the years 1969-1972. Later, she hosted a fashion corner on TVP. It was only in the 1980s that she managed to persuade the representatives of the station to create her own program “A Case for a Reporter”.

For many years of the issue of “Sprawa dla reportera” it was believed that Elżbieta Jaworowicz had no equal when it came to explaining complex social problems and bringing conflicting people to confrontation. All this in order to settle the dispute fairly and reconcile both sides. In an interview with Iwona Havranek, she confessed that she often personally cares about the fate of the program’s heroes. – I can’t be professionally indifferent, sometimes I cry with the characters. But I also have the certainty of a doctor’s hand, who cannot have a trembling hand when operating.

Thanks to her journalistic activities, Elżbieta Jaworowicz has received many awards, such as “Telekamera” or “Superwiktor”. In 1999, she was also awarded the Silver Cross of Merit, and on May 3, 2000, she received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta from the hands of the President. Despite numerous achievements, the production of “A Case for a Reporter” does not attract as many viewers as it did a few years ago. The viewership results are so disturbing that for some time there have been rumors about the potential end of the recordings of the program, as well as the uncertain future of Jaworowicz on television.

With 40 years of journalistic experience, Elżbieta Jaworowicz faces image problems from time to time. In 2008, she was awarded the “Anti-Journalists Award”. All because of a reportage presenting the situation of one of the tenement houses in Krakow. In addition, the Media Ethics Council has already stated twice that the journalist does not comply with journalistic standards.

Some participants in “Cases for a reporter” feel aggrieved by Jaworowicz and accuse her of lack of objectivity. Therefore, the Stop Rzetelni Association was even founded, which acted for and in their defense. The woman has already appeared in court twice, and after the trials ended, she apologized to people who felt aggrieved by the published materials in which they took part.

received a lawsuit from the journalist Leszek Bubel, who accused her of journalistic misconduct. When they met in the corridor in the building of the District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów, Jaworowicz allegedly kicked him and said he was “zero”. As a result, the man accused her of beating her, and the journalist, after losing the trial, was forced to pay PLN 18,000. The verdict was issued on September 13, 2019. Elżbieta Jaworowicz has not commented on this situation to this day.
