Netflix Announces Documentary About Pornhub. “We hope this film sparks debate”

Already on March 15, the latest documentary film about the largest pornographic website will appear on Netflix. “Sex, Network and Money: The Story of Pornhub” will tell you about the website’s operation behind the scenes and about the impact the website has on a society that willingly publishes its own recordings there.

The streaming giant announced the premiere of a documentary about Pornhub, a platform that allows the publication and viewing of amateur or professional pornographic films. Produced by Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, this documentary tells the story of the most popular adult video website. Sex, Network, and Money: A Pornhub Story arrives on Netflix on March 15.

According to the description, the document will also tell about the dark sides of the website’s functioning:

Pornhub, the most popular website for adults, has completely changed the way pornography is produced and distributed, thanks to which the creators of this type of content have gained a huge audience. The company earned billions of dollars, but at the same time became embroiled in cases involving the publication of materials without the consent of the people filmed and human trafficking. Anti-trafficking organizations fight for justice for victims. Is the internet giant able to protect those it makes money from? Or is it a new form of censorship aimed at adults who voluntarily record pornographic material?

In 2022, Pornhub’s YouTube and Instagram accounts were deleted due to repeated violations of community rules. This happened when the company MindGeek, which owns the portal, was sued by many people who claimed that Pornhub profited from the distribution of child pornography and erotic videos without the consent of the people appearing in them. The company said the allegations were baseless and believed it had “established the most comprehensive security measures in the history of user-generated platforms.”

Suzanne Hillinger, the director and producer of the documentary, said in a statement released by Netflix that the film will show what sexuality and consent is in today’s world, while online platforms worth millions of dollars grow and become rich thanks to human-generated content.

“Who has and who should have the power in these environments? We hope this film sparks a debate about sex and consent, both online and offline,” she added.
