Although it has been 111 years since the sinking, the shipwreck is still very popular. The richest among us can afford to see the remains of the sea giant with their own eyes. How much does a trip in the footsteps of the largest passenger ship of the 20th century cost?
Titanic Wreck Tour. Only the richest can afford it
Expeditions to the bottom of the Atlantic to explore the wreck are held annually in May and June. OceanGate Expeditions is responsible for them. The journey can take up to eight days and seven nights. It all depends on the conditions in the ocean. Crew members begin their expedition in St. John’s in Canada (Province of Newfoundland). The village is located about 600 kilometers from the wreck.
On the second day of the trip, the crew is familiarized with the safety regulations that apply during the expedition. Moreover, the team of researchers prepares divers and instructs them on the condition of the wreck and explains potential discoveries and finds. Depending on the weather conditions, the first test dives may take place on the third day of the expedition. The new members of the expedition will undergo training, thanks to which they will be able to descend almost four kilometers under water.
How much does this unusual adventure cost? Taking part in the expedition costs USD 250,000, which is about one million and one hundred thousand zlotys. This cost includes diving equipment, training, accommodation and meals on board.
Those interested in the expedition must hurry. The wreck of the Titanic may soon disappear completely
Those interested in seeing the wreck of the Titanic with their own eyes must hurry. The remains of the ship at the bottom of the Atlantic are falling apart more and more every year. All because of an unusual species of bacteria, Halomonas titanicae. It absorbs the steel and iron from which the ship was constructed. In place of these materials, rust formations appear in unusual shapes, somewhat reminiscent of icicles. What’s worse, they are very fragile, which means that the wreck is being destroyed more and more quickly.
Currently, OceanGate Expeditions has prepared several expeditions planned for the current and next year. In 2023, the expeditions are to take place from May 11 to June 24. In 2024 they will start and end two days earlier.
