This year, the record holder in terms of the number of nominations was the German-American-British war drama “Same in the West”, which received as many as 14. The Netflix film is an adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s novel of the same title. The production tells the story of the experiences of a young German soldier during World War I on the Western Front.
Next up with the most nominations are “Inisherin’s Ghosts” and “Everywhere All At Once,” which both had a shot at winning in ten categories. While the film starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson managed to win four awards – including the best British film – the American production about traveling between different multiverses won the award only for the best editing.
On the other hand, “No change in the West” turned out to be a record holder also when it comes to the number of Golden Masks won. The film began to triumph in the first minutes of the gala. It was this picture that won the first prize of this year’s awards – for the best adapted screenplay. It only got better after that. The production won statuettes in the following categories: for the best foreign language film, for the best direction, for the best music, for the best cinematography and for the best sound. But most of all, he managed to win in the most important category – for the best film. In total, the production won seven awards.
Austin Butler was awarded in the Best Actor category for his role in the biographical film “Elvis”, and Cate Blanchett, who played the main character in the musical drama “Tár”, was awarded in the Best Actress category. Her heroine became the first female conductor of the largest German orchestra in history.
According to information provided by the British Film Academy, this year’s gala at London’s Royal Festival Hall hosts the largest number of guests in history. The host of the evening is Richard E. Grant, a British actor, writer and director.
