For 13 years, scientists followed the fate of the participants and analyzed them. Researcher Torbjörn Åkerstedt looked at the relationship between the amount of sleep per day and mortality. It found that those under 65 who slept less than 5 hours a day were more likely to die than those who slept 5 or more hours.
