After finishing “In the Eyes of the Devil”, Sharon decided to stay at , where she met Roman Polanski and soon after landed the lead role in his production. There was a spark between the director and the actress during the recordings. After filming was over, they decided to move in together. Sharon gained more and more fame and recognition, and for her role in “Valley of the Dolls” she received a Golden Globe nomination. On August 8, 1969, two weeks before she was due to give birth, Sharon went with three friends – Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski and Abigail Folger – to a restaurant, from where they returned before 11 pm. Her husband was working on a new film in London at the time but he was supposed to come back in 4 days. Just after midnight, members of the sect “Family” founded by Charles Manson broke into their house. The terrified householders were ordered to lie on their stomachs. The Sebrings wrapped a rope around the neck, which they then threw over a ceiling beam. Tate was tied up at the other end. Their bodies were found the next day by a housekeeper. Frykowski and Folger were found dead on the front lawn, while Tate and Sebring were found in the living room, where “pig” was written on the door in the woman’s blood.
They all died of stab wounds. Sharon had sixteen of them, five of which were fatal. During the trial, it turned out that the actress begged the torturers to take her with them and refrain from murdering her until she gave birth. But they had no mercy. The crime shocked not only Roman Polanski, but also the whole city. The funeral of Sharon Tate and her son, who was posthumously named Paul Richard Polanski in honor of his grandparents, took place on August 13.
