Madrid, in winter, shelters itself with the heat of all the Culture. The main national artists make their way to Inverfest to fill the capital’s nights with entertainment. It is the ninth edition of the festival and The Baby Jesus did not want to miss it.
This Sunday (January 29) will be the first time that Jordi Évole’s band (Los Niños Jesús) sets foot in Madrid to play and sing in concert. The The Sun Rooma place known as “the cradle of the Madrid scene” located between Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía, will show off its mythical red curtains one more night to go on stage at Jordi, Jesus, Jacob, Oscar, Javi and Juan Carlos.
A few days before the grand premiere, Jordi Évole tells us how the preparations for a band that emerged paying homage to Pau Donésthe singer of Jarabe de Palo, after the artist died of cancer and the journalist published his last interview in the documentary ‘what you give me‘.
Question: – You are nervous?
Reply: – We are full. Every time a gig comes, it’s a very special week. has coincided with promoting my show (The Évole thing) and many very cool things come together. On Thursday and Friday we rehearsed. On Saturday we rest to have our voice ready. What can be done… let’s not freak out either – he laughs -. And on Sunday we take the van to Madrid.
Q:- You even have a van, now…!
A:- We made the group like someone who joins the gym, who buys everything: the leggings, the sports shoes, the sweatshirt… We did the same, but in a band version. We bought everything and said: “What are we missing?” A van. Well, a van. We already have everything. If the group goes to shit, the investment will have been high…
For us, getting together is a party”
Q:- And what happens in that van?
A:- Lots of laughs happen. For us, getting together is a party. The connection is very cool. She already knew Jacob and Oscar. They already played for a long time in various local groups. They asked me to sing with them and I said: “Well, I’m going to ruin your career”, but they were willing to let me ruin it.
Q:- How do you prepare the concerts?
A:- We review the entire repertoire, we try to change the order of the songs and incorporate new ones so that we always have a recent one and that everything is stimulating.
Q:- Do you dare to compose?
A:- Not at the moment because I don’t want to outshine either – he jokes -.
Q:- Have you ever commented that “at your age” and forming a band… How are you living it? Most importantly, are you enjoying it?
A:- I am enjoying it very much. I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it that much. I’m having a great time. It was something that I thought I would never do and being able to do it has been one of the great experiences of my life even though I’m a little late, because these things are done in high school… I wasn’t in high school of those who were cool I had to wait until I was almost 50 to be cool – he laughs – if this can be said cool.
Q:- What sure song does not fail this Sunday?
A:- Felicidad, by La Cabra Mecánica, Memphis Blues, by Kiko Veneno (who covers Bob Dylan) and some Pau Donés. There is always a song for Pau.
Q:- Anything to say to everyone who is going to see you this Sunday?
A:- They don’t expect to go to the concert of their lives but they can spend two very fun hours. So far it has gone more or less well, the people who have come to see us have had a good time. We hope that Madrid, which is like the stronghold, the place that any band wants to reach, is no different from the others. We really want to play in Madrid.
