Georgie Dann leaves in ‘solitude’: no institutional presence, no known singers or artists at the funeral home

This Wednesday, Spain received with great sadness Georgie Dann’s passing at age 81. The icon of the summer song in our country died at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid while undergoing a hip operation – although it should be noted that the artist was already in a weak state prior to surgery and suffered from several pathologies-. However, despite the recognition that a large number of Spaniards gave to his artistic career in the last 45 years, Georgie Dann has left alone.

After his death his body was transferred to the La Paz de Tres Cantos Funeral Parlor, in Madrid, and only the singer’s family has traveled to that place to say goodbye to the author of such unforgettable hits as ‘El Bimbó’, ‘El Chiringuito’ or ‘The Barbecue’. A circumstance that, at least, has surprised. Because there was no institutional presence at the eventAs well as well-known singers or artists. Not even fans.

The wake began at around 11:30 a.m., and a little later we managed to speak with his daughters, who assured that the expressions of support and affection for the death of the King of the Summer Song have been continuous since there was the tragic outcome: “We are constantly receiving messages and calls, and it is being crazy.to. He is a very loved character in Spain, wherever you go“.

“He is the king of the summer and we have that left. He is gone, but he is not gone. He will still be there,” said the daughters of Georgie Dann. Although he was born in France, the artist arrived in Spain at the age of 25. In the late 60’s he got his first big hit with ‘Casatshock’. By the mid-70s he was already fully installed in Madrid and, since then, he became a figure remembered every summer for eternity, leaving authentic hymns that, decades later, we all continue to hum.
