Journalist Barbara Walters, television legend in the United States, dies



Barbara Waltersthe first woman to anchor the evening news in the United States, has died at the age of 93as announced by the ‘ABC’ channel, where the legendary journalist worked.

Disney’s television subsidiary has not specified the place or cause of death of Walters, whom the company’s CEO, Robert Iger, recalled in a statement as “a true legend, a pioneer not just for women in journalism, but for journalism itself,” praising her great interviews with leaders and celebrities.

Born in Boston on September 25, 1929, she studied in that city, in New York and in Miami, where she graduated in English from Sarah Lawrence College and then began working at the ‘NBC’ affiliate in New York.

In 1976, Walters joined “ABC News,” where she became the first female anchor of the evening news. Three years later, she became a co-host of ’20/20′ and, in 1997, she launched the show’The view‘, which he presented until 2014.

During his extensive career, according to what the chain ‘ABC’ itself recalls, Walters won 12 Emmy Awards and interviewed every American president and first lady from the Nixons to the Obamas.
