Ecuador: 165 Candidates Register for November 29 Elections

Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) had received official registration from 165 candidates by 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, for various positions to be elected in the seccional elections on November 29, 2026.

According to the CNE report, registrations included 27 candidates for mayor, 38 for urban council seats, 14 for rural council seats, 6 for prefects and vice prefects, and 80 for rural parish council seats. Registrations are submitted digitally through platforms enabled by the council.

Verification requirements

In a statement, the CNE said the 24 provincial electoral boards will verify that candidates meet requirements set by electoral law. These include being 18 years old at the time of registration, holding full political rights, having no disqualifications under the Constitution or law, and having been born in or lived for the past two years in the jurisdiction they seek to represent while appearing on the electoral registry from the last election.

Candidates must also meet gender parity, list-heading and generational inclusion principles, and must have formally accepted their candidacy before electoral delegates or at CNE offices. The CNE said candidacies are considered officially registered once the qualifying resolution becomes final, adding that its work follows the Constitution and the law to guarantee participation rights for political organizations and citizens.
