The association of chemical companies in the Basque Country assures that the supply of drinking water for the population, the supply of medical gases for hospitals or the supply of natural gas in homes are being endangered.

The association of chemical and related companies of Euskadi AVEQ-KIMIKA has warned that the transport sector strike Due to the cost of fuel and “the indiscriminate blockade” of transport, they endanger “essential services for the Basque population”.

In a note, the general secretary of said organization, Luis Blanco Urgoitihas warned that “the blockade of road transport is leading to extreme situations” for activities considered essential and “can cause irreparable damage to Basque society”.

It has shown that chemical companies provide, for example, the treatment plants of the water consortiums and municipalities with essential products to be able to supply drinking water to the population.

“These are facilities that cannot be stopped in any case, due to the serious health and environmental risk that could be generated,” said AVEQ-KIMIKA, an association made up of 129 companies that directly employ some 7,700 people.

The organization has also pointed out that the interruption of the supply of medical gases for hospitalsof the maintenance of the supply of gnatural ace for homes or industrial facilities or the arrival of cleaning products for health centers they suppose, for example, “much more serious risks than any economic claim, however justified it may be”.

AVEQ-KIMIKA has revealed that there are industrial activities in the Basque Country that depend on supplies from the Basque chemical industry and “cannot stop their production except at the cost of great losses”.

These losses added to the price of energy and “the great uncertainties” that exist can “jeopardize many industrial companies and thousands of jobs”, he warned.
