On a visit to Mexico, world football star Ronaldinho Gaúcho lamented the violent events that took place on the 5th at the La Corregidora stadium, home of Querétaro, the team where he played in 2014 and 2015.
“I saw what happened in Querétaro, hard to believe. I send a big hug to the people of Querétaro, a hug to all the friends I have there,” Ronaldinho said in an interview after being inducted into the International Football Hall of Fame, endorsed by FIFA, at a ceremony in the city of Pachuca.
The serious incidents at La Corregidora stadium left 26 injured and Querétaro was punished with one year playing behind closed doors as home team, in addition to other sanctions.
“I hope they have a normal life again, that football returns to normality,” said the Brazilian.
Ronaldinho has 25 games and scored eight goals for Querétaro, where he was also runner-up in the Mexican Championship in 2015.
“I had a good time in Mexico. One moment I don’t forget was when we played against America, I was lucky to score two goals”, recalled Ronaldinho.
On entering the International Football Hall of Fame and his career, the 41-year-old former player commented: “I was lucky enough to do things well and that many liked my style of play. To this day, wherever I go, people treat me with great affection,” he concluded.
