Peruvian ports moved more than 110 million MT in 2021: 32.8% were minerals

The National Port Authority (APN)an entity attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), reported that, during 2021, 110,802,662 metric tons of cargo were mobilized in all the country’s ports.

“The continuity of its operations and services during the 365 days of the year has allowed the National Port System to guarantee the attention in the supply chain and the supply in the different productive sectors”, he specified through a press release.

According to the report, the port of Callao is leading the Top 20 Ranking of the National Port System, through the Multipurpose North Terminal, operated by APM Terminals, with more than 19.9 million metric tons.

“Maintaining its position in the first place for the sixth consecutive year, with a participation of 18% at the national level,” explained the authority.

He is followed by Shougang Iron Port Terminal Perulocated in San Nicolás, Ica, which registered more than 18.6 million metric tons, a 16.8% share nationwide.

Going down one position in the ranking, compared to 2020, the South Zone Container Terminal, operated by DP World Callaonow ranks third with more than 16.5 million metric tons mobilized, a share of 14.9% nationwide.

In fourth place is the Multibuoy Terminal La Pampilla Refineryin Ventanilla, which registered a movement of 7.5 million metric tons with a participation of 6.8% nationwide.

In the fifth location is the Terminal Port of Mataranioperated by Terminal Internacional del Sur (Tisur), which moved 6 million metric tons of cargo in containers, general cargo (metals, grains, fertilizers, chemicals, among others) and mineral concentrate, with a 5.8% share .

APN: 32.8% load was minerals

At a general level, of the total cargo moved in port terminals for public and private use, 32.8% corresponds to bulk minerals; 26.7%, liquid bulk; 25.2%, to cargo in containers; 10.2%, solid bulk cargo (agriculture and fertilizers); 4.7%, to fractional load; and 0.4%, at rolling load.

“This has been possible thanks to the commitment of all the actors involved in port activities in each of the country’s ports, with the leadership of the MTC, through the APN,” the port authority reported.
