High-octane gasoline, air travel, urban taxis, onions, chicken pieces, domestic service and laundry detergent are among the products and services that had the most impact on inflation in February 2022, which reached 0.23%.
It is the highest percentage recorded in that month since 2015, when that consumer price index stood at 0.61%. Before and during the pandemic, there were even negative values and in 2021 February inflation was 0.08%.
These data are detailed by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) in its monthly report published on March 7.
The accumulated inflation in February 2022 is 0.96%, since that month is added to that of January, which was 0.72%.
And annual inflation reaches 2.71%, which is also the highest since 2015, in the last seven years.
The cities of the Sierra (monthly inflation of 0.31%) showed higher monthly variations than the cities of the Coast (0.16%), but when analyzing the annual data the opposite was true, the cities of the Coast (annual inflation of 2.72%) presented slight variations greater than those of the Sierra (2.70%).
The Basic Family Basket in February 2022 cost $725.16, an increase of 0.11% compared to the previous month. In the Sierra it was $736.29 -the most expensive basket is recorded in Cuenca ($753.63)- and on the Coast it was $714.03.

While the Vital Basket had a cost of $514.20, an increase of 0.04% compared to the cost of the previous month.

The three divisions that most affected monthly inflation in February 2022 were: Transport (0.0814%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.0553%); and Furniture, articles for the home and for the ordinary maintenance of the home (0.0376%), which is where the products or services with the greatest incidence appear.
