The Queen Elizabeth II received Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Mondayat Windsor Castle, the first meeting held in person by the monarch since she contracted covid-19.
The president was visiting the United Kingdom to talk about Ukraine with the prime minister Boris Johnson.
Behind them, on the queen’s worktable, was a bouquet of blue and yellow flowers in a vase, the ukrainian flag colorsinterpreted as a subtle message of support for that country militarily invaded by Russia.
Last week, the sovereign made a “generous donation”, for an amount that was not specified, to a platform of humanitarian associations that help refugees fleeing that country.
Elizabeth II is also the queen of Canada and Justin Trudeau had already seen her several times as a child through her father, Pierre Trudeau, one of the longest-serving Canadian heads of state.
The monarch, who will turn 96 in April, tested positive for the coronavirus on February 20.
As a result of this he canceled his commitments, but last week the hearings resumed online from Windsor, where he has resided since the start of the pandemic. (I)
