Peru becomes the second world producer of tin

Peru was ranked as the second world producer of tin in 2021, according to the International Tin Association (TIN). At the company level, Minsur was the second global supplier of this mineral with an increase of 27% in its production levels.

According to the report, refined tin production recovered from its pandemic lows last year. Furthermore, most global smelters, including those in China, had a relatively “normal” year despite the challenges.

“In general, it is estimated that world production reached 378,400 tons, 11% more than last year (…). In 2021, these 10 companies (the first in the top) produced 59% of the world’s tin, compared to 67% in 2020”, reported TIN.

Minsur, of the Breca group, went from third to second place with 31,843 tons of refined, an increase of 27% in its production levels in 2021. Yunnan Tin Company, from China, maintained its position as the first in the world with 82,000 tons .

“Our operating units in Peru and Brazil increased production levels by 27% in 2021, with which this historic position for our country was achieved,” Minsur commented on its LinkedIn account.

He added that this achievement is “the result of the commitment and professionalism of our great human team, which knew how to maintain operational excellence by complying with the highest standards in safety and sustainability.”

“It is also the result of various innovation and efficiency initiatives that we have been developing, and of our commitment to continue investing in Peru,” stressed the mining company dedicated to the extraction, foundation and refining of tin and copper.

Minsur operates the San Rafael tin mine in Puno and the Pucamarca gold mine in Tacna, as well as a Smelter and Refinery Plant in Pisco. In addition, it owns 60% of the shares of Mina Justa, developed through Marcobre.
