Although he lived in France for almost six decades, Seguí was in Argentina with his wife Clelia Taricco, a source from the Ministry of Culture confirmed to AFP.

He had recently visited the city of Córdoba, 700 km to the north, where he had planned an exhibition for November at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in Córdoba.
“We regret the death of Antonio Seguí, at the age of 88. Today we say goodbye to one of the great exponents of local art”, wrote the Caraffa Museum of Córdoba, in a statement.

art to fight
“I can’t think of anything to do other than work,” Seguí told the AFP in an interview in Paris, when in 2019, at the age of 85, he presented an exhibition of fifty of his works at the French National Library (BNF), to which he had just donated fifty of them, including prints, portfolios and illustrated books.
He never stopped returning to Argentina, except during the years of the dictatorship (1976-1983), time when the military even denied him the renewal of his passport.
“With art one can say things easily, it’s the only way to fight seriously,” he said in that interview.
The Parque de la Memoria, a monument in Buenos Aires to the victims of the dictatorship, expressed its sadness at the death of “one of the greatest artists in Argentina”.
“He developed a vast and prolific artistic career with sensitivity and creativity, working tirelessly until the end of his life,” he added in a statement.
As a good Argentine, football was not indifferent to him. A fan of Belgrano de Córdoba since he was a boy, his club had declared Seguí an honorary member and fired him “with great shock”, in a tweet this Saturday. (I)
