Proinversión: the award of two 4G band projects is suspended

Today, Saturday February 19, Proinversión reported that it suspended the award of the AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz Radio Spectrum Band projectsin order to improve both projects and provide timely 4G mobile services (telephony and quality internet) to urban and rural areas of the country.

“The public act of presentation of technical and economic proposals was scheduled for Monday, February 21; however, in recent days, bidders have been telling PROINVESTMENT and to Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) that the final conditions, disclosed with the publication of the final version of the contracts, made it difficult for them to participate in the process,” the institution reported.

It is noted that The concern of the bidders is mainly related to the mandatory investment commitments and their technical specifications.as well as the applicable legal framework for this type of deployment in rural areas, which would make investments in this sector unattractive.

It should be noted that this tender requires, at the request of the MTC, that the winners of the tendered Bands must execute some Obligatory Commitments of Investment aimed at expanding the coverage of mobile services in neglected places and strengthening the telecommunications infrastructure in rural areas of Peru.

Proinversión indicates that the suspension of the process will serve to evaluate the conditions under which the tender is currently being considered. In this sense, it will coordinate with the MTC to improve both projects and continue with the bidding process, but ensuring the concurrence of the bidders and the benefit of the towns included in the two projects.
