The Ministry of Production (Produce), through the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture (PNIPA), will grant grants for more than S/ 1 million for fishing innovation projects with the aim of providing innovative solutions for the benefit of the population and areas affected by oil spills in the country. These initiatives will have an execution time of six months.
Although there will be various projects that can apply, in the categories of adaptive and applied research; as well as extension services or technical assistance, and capacity building in fishing and aquaculture, on this occasion the proposals that are related to the events that occurred in Ancón will have a special bonus.
As will be remembered, on January 15 there was a oil spill in Ventanilla caused by the company Repsol SA, to date it is known that more than 11,000 barrels were spilled into the sea, which has already spread over more than 40 beaches in the north of Lima. In addition to having caused damage to the population of the district and the marine fauna.
The proposals that are presented can be oriented towards research for the bioremediation of the coastal marine ecosystem affected by the oil spill, technical assistance to communities of artisanal fishermen for the identification of innovation opportunities in the face of ecological disasters, among others.
However, it is also possible to co-finance projects to strengthen capacities in filleting, vacuum packing and transportation of hydrobiological resources; administration of artisanal fishing landings, obtaining an artisanal fishing diver license, reuse of waste, handling of oily waste in artisanal fishing landings, among other difficulties in this subsector.
“We hope to receive projects that can contribute to the mitigation of impacts caused by the oil spill, as well as those that can explore technical assistance issues for the vacuum packaging of hydrobiological products, for the preparation of commercial cuts of fishery products, for the use of applications for the commercialization of fishery products, among others”, announced David Ramos, executive director of the PNIPA.

Among the requirements that applicants must take into account are: have a valid RUC, not registering debts with SUNAT, as well as having an aquaculture right for aquaculture innovation projects; and with a fishing license or permit for fishing innovation projects.
