MEF: changes to the mining tax regime will be worked on with Congress

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Oscar Graham, referred to the changes to the mining tax regime that were pending in the previous administration of former Minister Pedro Francke, and pointed out that his office continues to work on the proposal that they will present to the Congress of the republic.

In this regard, he stressed that the proposal will be worked on hand in hand with the Parliament in search of a consensus, however, they do not yet have an estimated date on when they will introduce the bill.

“The commitment is to work in an articulated and consensual manner with a proposal. At this time we continue with evaluation and I could not give a date on which we are going to present a proposal that will be definitively discussed with the Congress”, said Minister Graham at a press conference.

It is important to remember that the former Minister of Economy, Pedro Francke, indicated that these changes sought to tax more mining companies that have large profits thanks to the increase in mineral prices. According to MEF estimates, it aims to additionally collect around S/ 1,200 million per year.
