In addition, industrial production will grow below the average of the countries of the region, whose expansion will be 1.7%.

In this way, the Peru will occupy the fifth position in Latin America this year with an advance of 1.7%, after Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and Chile, who will show expansions in their industrial productions of 3.5%, 4.3%, 2.7% and 1.9% respectively, according to the report.

It should be noted that in 2021 Peru was expected to be in sixth place, which can now be considered as a positive change.

The sixth place is occupied by Brazil, with 0.4% of industrial production.

According to an article by Esan Bussines published at the end of 2021, the outlook for 2022 in the manufacturing sector may be affected by the political situation: “For example, at the political level, the influence of the current environment on the exchange rate affects the cost structure of manufacturing companies. In this sense, the volume of purchases, especially from Asia, cannot yet be defined due to the uncertainty surrounding demand. This situation contrasts with previous years, when the cost of the dollar remained at stable levels.”

Projection for 2023

Next year, Peru will take fourth place with 1.8% after Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, whose manufactures will grow 3.9%, 2.6%, 2.6% and 2.1% respectively, estimated in its latest report, from January 2022, the FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast LatinFocus.
