French Republican presidential candidate Valerie Pecresse spoke in Russian during a televised speech and called on the Russian people to abandon the “war with Ukraine.” Pekress posted a video from the France 2 TV channel on her Twitter page.
“I want to tell the proud Russian people that we must build peace in Europe together. Starting a war with Ukraine would be a terrible mistake,” she said during her speech.
Pecresse worked in the government of ex-French President Jacques Chirac, headed the Ministry of Higher Education and Science under Nicolas Sarkozy and the Ministry of Budget and Public Accounts under Francois Fillon. Pecresse is currently in charge of the Île-de-France region.
Recall that Western countries after reports of a possible “Russian invasion” began to send troops to Ukraine. Against the background of the escalation, NATO began the transfer of ships and aircraft to the countries of Eastern Europe. Ukraine has already received weapons from Britain and is awaiting supplies from Poland. The Kremlin dismisses suggestions of a possible invasion.
