WIN will invest more than S/ 150 million in 2022 to expand its internet coverage to provinces

For this 2022, the Peruvian company WIN, which provides Fiber Optic Internet to the home (FTTH), plans to invest more than S/ 150 million to expand its infrastructure and Commercial Operation throughout the country.

Victor Jáuregui, vice president of WIN, in dialogue with The Republicspecified that they currently have a presence in Lima, Trujillo and Chiclayo, for which they are making this disbursement so that, in the short term, they can reach Chimbote and Piura, and then to Huancayo and Tacna.

Our goal is to have a presence in the north and in some of the main metropolises of each department, but it is still a very long way that depends on the financial capacity and also on the facilities that exist in the cities themselves to be able to lay fiber”, explained the manager.

The WIN representative noted that this investment is also made because they seek to improve the quality of internet service in the Peruvian market, which today is important for tele-education, telemedicine and remote work.

In addition, he mentioned that this investment also contributes to the digital divide in Peru it is shortened.

Jáuregui also highlighted that last year has been one of growth, as they went from 25,000 users in 2020 to about 130,000 at the end of 2021 and expect to close 2022 with 250,000 clients.

internet speed

Win’s director was in favor of the rule enacted last year at the insistence of the Congress of the republic, which requires guaranteeing 70% of the contracted internet speed, as this is a benefit to the user. He also called for greater support for the deployment of networks.

“We would have to see an issue that public entities communicate with local ones, I mean ministries, municipalities, so that they can give you the facilities for network deployment. It must be understood that not all networks can be buried, the cost of an underground network versus an aerial network is 10 to 1, and the main problem of aerial networks is not to lay more, but to remove the cables that are in disuse, there are to improve this coordination”, concluded Jáuregui
