The Western Union payment system will cease to conduct money transfer operations within Russia from April 1, RBC writes with reference to a letter from the company sent to partner banks. At the same time, cross-border transfers will continue to be carried out as usual.

The authenticity of the letter was confirmed by a source in the payment market and a representative of Western Union. According to this document, the decision was made due to the low demand for domestic transfers in the market. At the same time, a representative of Western Union refused to disclose information about the volume of such transfers, since the company does not disclose such data.

It is clarified that customers will lose the opportunity to send a transfer within Russia through the payment system on March 31, and from April 1 it will no longer be possible to receive a payment or a refund. Those who made the transfer before March 31 will be able to return the money from April 1 at the offices of the Russian Post if the recipient did not have time to receive the transfer. It is also noted that from March 24, the limit of internal transfers will be reduced to 5 thousand rubles.
