The College of Engineers of Peru (CIP) ruled on the oil spill that occurred on the coast of Ventanilla and urged Repsol to publish on its website the technical support of what was reported regarding the amount spilled in order to corroborate the veracity of the reported figures.
“We request that the investigation of the accident has to determine the root cause. The latter will allow a correct evaluation of the impacts and propose the necessary actions to be carried out for the recovery of the affected ecosystems”, he added.
The CIP also supported the OEFA report where it indicates that Repsol has not been complying with the activities of identification of affected areas, containment, cleaning and recovery of the hydrocarbon.
“Our professionals have carried out technical visits to the affected areas and have been able to verify the lack of resources, the improvisation of the companies (third parties) contracted by Repsol for cleaning and the lack of supervision by Repsol of the activities that are being carried out, ”indicates the union in its statement.
On the other hand, he stated that the Ministerial Resolution No. 021-2022-MINAMwhich declares an environmental emergency (DEA) in the geographical area that includes the coastal marine zone of Ventanilla, Ancón and Santa Rosa, does not include sufficient measures to “address the real magnitude of the problem”.
In this sense, he asked the authorities to contemplate the incorporation of professional associations in the work tables of the DEA Action Plan.
