Sensational gold and a hill record! No jumper has flown that far there [WIDEO]

The competition for the medal of the Winter Olympics in Beijing began on Saturday. At the start we saw two Polish representatives – Nicole Konderla and. Polish women played supporting roles and finished the struggle in the first series, taking 36th and 35th positions. But there was no shortage of emotions anyway.

Ursa Bogataj’s sky-high record. Slovenia landed far beyond the hill size

In the first part of the competition, the weaker players could not cope with the conditions. The first serious application for a medal was sent by Thea Minyan Bjoerseth, who started with number 28, who jumped 99.5 meters.

She was overtaken only by the 36th number. The Japanese women’s legend gained 98.5 m, but this allowed her to take the lead. Soon afterwards, distances over 100 m were achieved by two Slovenes – Nika Kriznar and Ema Klinec. But a real show of strength was given by their friend.

Ursa Bogataj covered as much as 108 m, which is a new hill record! Slovenia jumped the HS point by two meters, but she did not manage to land with the telemark, for which the judges reduced her a lot of points. A moment later, the German Katharina Althaus made a great jump, and she was the leader after the first round.

Slovenia won thanks to a brilliant second attempt, jumping 100 m away. For Bogataj it is the greatest success in his career. The 26-year-old jumper won the Olympic gold, not having won the World Cup competition yet! Usually in the shadow of her rivals, this time it is she who withstands the pressure and triumphs.

No jumper at the Olympics yet came close to the result of Slovenia

The jumpers will not fight for medals until Sunday, but they already have six training series, a trial series and qualifications behind them, and yet none of them managed to get close to 108 meters.

The hill record so far is 103 m, set on Saturday by Robert Johansson. It is true that Ryoyu Kobayashi and Manuel Fettner jumped after they achieved 106.5 m, but these are not official results, because they were obtained during training, ie – according to the rules – during unofficial starts.

This further underlines the scale of Ursa Bogataj’s achievement. The silver medal was won by Katharina Althaus, and the bronze medal went to Nice Kriznar.
