Construction sector grew by 84.2% during 2021 in Lambayeque, according to Capeco

The president of the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (Capeco), German Mori Toast, pointed out that the construction sector in the Lambayeque region grew in 84.2% in 2021, a figure that, he indicated, was 20 percentage points higher than the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at the national level. However, he specified that there is a different situation, specifically with the 150 regional companies that only reach 5%.

In this context, Mori highlighted that the behavior of this sector allowed the expansion of the regional GDP in 18,4%, which exceeds the national growth of 17.5%.

In this context, he warned that the expansion of public investment and housing projects displace regional companies, since they are crossed out or disqualified due to minimum requirements that are not relevant to these projects.

Along these lines, he stated that the figures and indicators show a significant economic and sectoral recovery, although at the same time there is a opportunity cost that affects regional companies that do not have access to value-added benefits.

“I think more opportunities are missing for the regional constructor. This implies that public entities convene selection processes with viable requirements and thus avoid directing. Unfortunately, there are authorities that subsidize their political campaign expenses with the works”, he told La República.
