Petersburgers asked President Vladimir Putin to release Alexander Konovalov, an entrepreneur and ideologist of the QR resistance in the northern capital, from custody. The corresponding appeal appeared on the website change.org.
The authors of the initiative consider the criminal prosecution a political process and an act of personal revenge of the city authorities for the civic position of a businessman. The text of the letter draws attention to the accusations of giving a bribe to “unidentified persons” just at the time when the businessman “came out against discrimination against residents.”
“QR codes, against the illegal introduction of which Alexander Konovalov fought, have nothing to do with health and the fight against the spread of infection,” the authors of the petition say.
The Petersburgers demanded that Konovalov be released and that the criminal proceedings be terminated. The petition, which has collected more than 6.6 thousand signatures so far, is also addressed to Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, head of the RF Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin and deputies of the federal parliament.
The appeal was signed by many Russians, including media personalities. So, Anastasia Afonina, a participant in beauty contests, spoke in defense of the businessman.
“Alexander is a very brave noble person. Today he needs our help, the scandalous story of his arrest is an illegal act, ”the girl wrote on social networks.
Businessman Alexander Konovalov is known as a supporter of bar resistance in 2020 and a new wave of QR resistance in 2021-2022. He repeatedly spoke out against covid restrictions for catering enterprises and insisted on the unconstitutionality of Smolny’s measures.
The businessman was arrested until March 27 in the case of a bribe. Konovalov pleaded not guilty.
