Fruit and vegetable exports exceeded US$ 5,000 million as of November 2021

The agro-export management of the Association of Exporters (Adex) reported that fruit and vegetable exports abroad exceeded US$ 5,123,619,000 between January and November 2021, which meant an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2020 (US$ 4,207,935,000).

The vice president of the Fruit and Vegetable Committee of the business association, Daniel González Hernández, explained that the good performance of both items is due to the high international demand, since, with the appearance of the COVID-19, consumers choose nutritious and higher quality products.

In detail, fruit shipments abroad totaled just over US$4,198 million as of November 2021, experiencing a 26% increase compared to the similar period in 2020 (US$3,321,906,000).

His most requested food was palta (US$ 1,166 million) with a positive variation of 42% (concentrated 28% of the total). He was closely followed by blueberry (US$ 1,165 million) with an increase of 25% and also with a representation of 28%. Then the grape, mango, tangerine, bananas, pomegranates, among others, were located.

The main destination was the United States by suing them for US$ 1,479 million 663 thousand, a growth of 21% and a participation of 35%. The Netherlands (US$ 1,009,296,000) ranked second with an increase of 29%. The top ten was completed by the United Kingdom, Spain, Hong Kong, Chile, China, Canada, South Korea and Russia. Of this group, China closed in the red (-10%), while Chile obtained the largest increase (126%).

On the other hand, shipments of vegetables at the international level totaled US$ 925 million 600 thousand as of November 2021 and a variation of 4.4% compared to the same period in 2020 (US$ 886 million 28 thousand).

Asparagus (US$ 483 million 754 thousand) represented 52% of these exports and achieved an evolution of 5%. Also in this ranking were the artichoke (US$ 125 million 166 thousand), onion (US$ 88 million 384 thousand), ginger (US$ 78 million 148 thousand) and olives (US$ 41 million 505 thousand). Likewise, oregano, tomato, garlic, corn, hearts of palm and others were sent abroad.

The United States led the requests with US$ 473 million 820 thousand, an increase of 6% and a participation of 51%. He followed Spain (US$ 114 million 427 thousand), the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Brazil. The first 10 places were completed by Chile, France, Germany, Colombia and Japan. Of them, the Netherlands, Brazil and France reduced their orders by -3%, -11% and -7%, respectively.
