Minem published project to make changes to the mine closure regulations

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) published the project of the supreme decree for the modification of the Regulation for the Closure of Mines in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 31347, enacted last year.

The objective of this measure is to collect the opinions and suggestions of the actors interested in the set of proposed modifications. A period of 15 business days was established for this purpose, counted from the last Wednesday.

The supreme decree contemplates various changes to the current regulation with the purpose of making more efficient the accompaniment of the State and the supervision of the mine closure process, an activity that is carried out to rehabilitate the areas intervened by the mining activity, so that they recover the characteristics of an ecosystem with a healthy environment and suitable for life.

The Minem informed that the modifications cover aspects such as clarify the role of the authorities involved in mine closure, specify the content of the mine closure plan, correct negative environmental impacts, among others.

The entire proposal and statement of reasons is enabled on the institutional portal of the Minem. Likewise, the opinions and suggestions will be notified to the Minem headquarters in San Borja or to the email NOTIFICACIONDGAAM@minem.gob.pe
