Peru will receive up to 600,000 foreign tourists by closing 2021

By the end of this year, Peru will receive up to 600,000 foreign tourists, according to the president of the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVIT), Ricardo Acosta.

Along these lines, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) is less optimistic about receptive tourism, since they aim to host only 452,000 international tourists, which will generate foreign exchange for 505 million dollars, according to the barometer of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

It is worth adding that In 2020 our country received 896,523 international tourists, which meant a drop of 79.5% compared to 2019, according to official figures.

Acosta adds that the idea and goal of APAVIT is to reach 10 million tourists per year and “we can achieve this with the support of the government,” he argued during the opening ceremony of the National and International Workshop Reactivation 2021.

On the other hand, the union leader announced that he will propose to the Vice Ministry of Tourism to eliminate the molecular test for the passenger who enters Peru and instead, include the antigen, as well as lower the IGV from 18% to 5% on air tickets.

Finally, he reported that travel agencies worked at 100% before the pandemic and currently, they work at 15%, which is “a very low point.”

“Tourism generates many jobs and is a chain of links. We have to continue in that direction ”, he concluded.
