Jaime Jarrín: The way of life had to be changed, it will be 64 years with the Dodgers | Other Sports | sports

The Ecuadorian Major League Hall of Famer says his retirement is because he wants to spend more time with his family.

Jaime Jarrín believes that it is time to “change the train of life”. The Ecuadorian called ‘The Voice of the Dodgers in Spanish’, who will retire from the microphones after the 2022 Major League Baseball campaign, hopes to spend more time with his children, although he will not be completely separated from the Los Angeles team (USA).

In statements to ESPN On Tuesday, Jarrín expressed: “The way of life had to be changed. It’s already 63 years, and it’s going to be 64, with the Dodgers. Priorities had to be changed. Until now it was all work and then family. Once my wife passed away, almost three years ago, I said ‘no, I have to spend more time with my children’, who I did not give the necessary time when they were growing up, because I was on tour with the Dodgers or doing (broadcasting) boxing. I thought it was necessary, I approached the Dodgers, they told me ‘please stay one more season’. They agreed to slow down next year. I will only do the home games, the 81 games. I gradually want to withdraw. The Dodgers told me if that was the reason, that’s fine. I consulted with my children and they said ‘dad, whatever you say’. As I see that my retired son and retired last year is happy with life, I said to myself ‘let’s see if I like him too’.

That in his profession the impact of Jarrín is comparable to that of Pancho Segura, Alberto Spencer, Andrés Gómez, Jefferson Pérez, Richard Carapaz and Neisi Dajomes, regarding the universalization of the name of Ecuador, is confirmed by his status as a member of the Hall of Fame Major League Baseball, who owns a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, who the HBO network dedicated a special program to him, and that his name is eternalized on the Ring of Honor at Dodger Stadium (along with that of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Sandy Koufax and other celebrities).

Asked about what he will miss the most in his retirement, the Cayambe (Pichincha) native replied: “The camaraderie I have seen with players and the press. Particularly with the press I have been fortunate to get along tremendously well. My best friends have been journalists. They have always supported me tremendously well and that has been echoed in Ecuador. The press in Ecuador has been very kind, very kind to me. I will miss the camaraderie, the baseball itself. “

Although he assured that he would not be in the narrative again after the 2022 MLB season, Jarrín – who began his career a year after the team left Brooklyn for Los Angeles – said that he would not completely dissociate himself from the Angelenos : “I just signed for a year with the Dodgers, who told me they wanted me to be tied to the organization. They gave me an additional two-year contract to only perform at four or five special events. Anything except go back to the mic”.
