Pervis Estupiñán did not play in Villarreal’s win against Young Boys in the Champions League

The Ecuadorian international has not played with the Spanish team since October 3 when he was stellar in a duel with Real Betis.

Without the Ecuadorian international Pervis Estupiñán who stayed the entire game in the substitute seat, Villarreal beat Swiss Young Boys 4-1 this Wednesday in a long-suffering Champions League match to get into the fight for the round of 16 qualification .

The goals of Yeremi Pino (minute 6), Gerard Moreno (16), Alberto Moreno (89) and Samu Chukwueze (90 + 1) allowed the Yellow Submarine to leave the last place in group F and take second behind the leader, the Manchester United, who beat Atalanta, third place, 3-2.

The Young Boys, whom Meschak Elia’s goal (76) did not serve to turn the game around, remained in the last position of the group.

United have 6 points, to 4 from Atalanta and Villarreal, while Young Boys continue with 3.

Villarreal, who arrived in Bern without the right to fail, suffered to overcome an intense Young Boys, who on the first day of the Champions League had managed to beat United.

Villarreal took control of the match from the start, multiplying the passes until Pino soon appeared to head a cross from Alfonso Pedraza (6) to the Swiss net.

The Yellow Submarine ruled the field against a Swiss team that sought to surprise the counterattack, but they soon fell a little further behind.

A free kick was used by Gerard Moreno to connect a chopped header that made it 2-0 (16) and gave the Spanish team more peace of mind.

Already far behind on the scoreboard, the Young Boys decided to abandon the precautions, advancing lines and pressing the exit of the ball from Villarreal.

The Swiss team gave more speed to their game, surprising the ‘Yellow Submarine’, very uncomfortable in a game turned into a give and take with constant comings and goings.

Elia gives hope to the Swiss

Ulisses García hit a header that narrowly missed (24) and after half an hour, Michel Aebicher unleashed a shot that made the squad tremble (31).

Villarreal suffered, seeing with relief the arrival at halftime, after which the Swiss continued to put enthusiasm and speed into their game.

The Yellow Submarine tried to tie the ball to stop the Young Boys as they brushed the third goal on a Pedraza shot to the crossbar (50).

Encouraged by their audience, the Young Boys continued to seek their options with quick transitions.

Villarreal goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli had to work hard to stop first a dangerous arrival from Christian Fassnacht (56) and a header from Camara (63).

The insistence of the local team ended up having its prize when Elia, one of the most active men of the Young Boys, culminated a ride beating Rulli (76).

The goal encouraged the locals who continued to press with more heart than head, without the passing of the minutes seeming to make a dent in the intensity of their game.

When the Young Boys were more animated, Alberto Moreno took advantage of a rebound in the Swiss goal to finish off the goal, making it 3-1 (89) and sentencing the game.

Villarreal, with the tranquility of the third goal, was still able to increase their account further with a final goal from Samuel Chukwueze (90 + 1), who had just entered the field of play.

The left-back Estupiñán, who was a starter in the last triple date of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, remained on the substitute bench and has not played with the Spanish team since October 3 when he started as a starter against Real Betis in LaLiga. In the Champions League he has only played 29 minutes against Manchester United.
