The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that the National Telecommunications Program (Pronatel) provisionally assumed the operation and maintenance of the National Fiber Optic Backbone Network (RDNFO).
This, after the expiration of the RDNFO Concession Contract, signed between the MTC and the company Azteca Comunicaciones Perú SAC, last Friday, January 14.
In compliance with Ministerial Resolution No. 689-2021-MTC/01, Pronatel indicated that the act of reversion of the assets in favor of the State has not yet been signed because Azteca has not fully corrected the observations communicated in a timely manner during supervision, executed between November and December 2021.
The Executive entrusted Pronatel with the function of the temporary operation of the RDNFO, directly or through third parties, for up to a maximum of three years.
The objective is to guarantee its continuity for the benefit of the digital inclusion of citizens in rural and isolated areas, who currently do not have access to Internet service, the agency reported.
The RDNFO, which unites 22 regional capitals and 180 provincial capitals in the country, is part of an interconnected system of national telecommunications infrastructure, which will allow better use of Pronatel’s 21 broadband projects.
These projects are currently in different stages (execution, operation and maintenance, and process of commissioning Proinversion) and have been connecting 7,360 rural localities to Internet service.
