A worker dies after falling from a scaffold in Vitoria-Gasteiz

A worker from 47 years has died when rushing from the building in which he worked in the Olarizu neighborhood of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The event took place minutes before 12 noon when, near Errekaleor, when the operator fell over the scaffolding of a building located on Avenida Olarizu. Has died on the spot. In a statement, CCOO has reported that the worker belonged to the staff of the masonry company LAR Servicios Auxiliares a la Construcción S. L, outsourced by Construcciones Urrutia SL.

The Union LAB has shown its solidarity with the family of the deceased worker and has demanded institutional involvement and a specific plan for construction with real preventive policies against deaths at work.

“From the LAB union, we want to show our solidarity with the worker’s family and those close to him and we remember that in 2021, at least 62 workers died,” he stressed.

As detailed, “in 2021 there were seven deaths at work in Euskal Herria due to falls from height and in 2020, a worker died in the same neighborhood of Olarizu in the same way.”

Faced with this death at work, he has announced that LAB will mobilize “together with the Basque union majority” next Thursday, January 13, at 11:30 a.m. on Avenida Olarizu in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

CCOO of Euskadi has also announced that it will concentrate this Wednesday at 12:00 in front of the headquarters of the Alava employers’ association (SEA) to report this work accident and in solidarity with the relatives and colleagues of the deceased.
