Those responsible for Metro Bilbao have highlighted that 2021 began with “the restrictive measures” implemented since the end of 2020 to face the third wave of the pandemic and, therefore, they describe this year’s result as “excellent”.
Metro Bilbao has closed 2021 with 66,779,198 trips, which is 19.28% more than the previous year, although it continues “far from the historical record of 2019”, when 91,570,001 cancellations were registered, according to the data provided by the Biscayan underground.
In a statement, its managers have described this growth in validated trips as “excellent” (10,791,733 more trips than in 2020) and, in this sense, they recalled that 2021 started with restrictive measures implemented since the end of 2020 to face the third wave of the pandemic.
In this way, after going through different levels of mobility restrictions, the night service was not recovered in its entirety until last October, although the usual daytime service has been offered in its entirety in 2021.
