More responsible mining: Yumpag obtains all its permits for the first stage of exploitation

Raúl Benavides, chairman of the board of El Brocal, reported that the operators of the Yumpag silver project have obtained all the necessary permits to begin its first stage.

“To date, we have all the operating permits for what we have defined as the first stage,” he said in an interview with the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).

However, Benavides said they are still working on environmental studies and various operating permits to continue with the following phases of this silver deposit.

It should be noted that on March 18, Buenaventura, the mining company in charge of the project, received authorization for the Yumpag Project Mining Plan from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), which will allow silver mining activities to be carried out.

This authorization allows uninterrupted mining at 1,000 tonnes per day (TPD), which will allow the company to reach an estimated production of between 6.5 and 7.2 million ounces of silver by 2024.

Yumpag: Buenaventura’s ‘silver bullet’

Yumpag, a 100% Buenaventura-owned silver project, is located near the Uchucchacua Unit, in the Yanahuanca district, Daniel Alcides Carrión province, Pasco region.

Geologically, the project consists of a northeast-trending intermediate sulphidation vein system, tensional to the Cachipampa fault, which controls mineralization at the Uchucchacua mine.

The most significant structure identified to date is the Camila vein, which presents bonanza-type silver mineralization, associated with silver sulfosalts, with some lead-zinc credits and traces of gold.

The Yumpag deposit is similar to that of Uchucchacua and in the future it will be integrated into this production unit through a tunnel at level 3,850.
