Sunat is implementing its own office to help speed up the transit of imports and shipments.
With a view to implementing its own Customs Office to facilitate the entry and exit of products through the Chancay megaport, the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) and Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Perú SA signed a new collaboration agreement aimed at managing the infrastructure granted to guarantee the operations of said branch.
The so-called Chancay Customs Office will operate 24 hours a day to “promote agile and dynamic management, supported by regulatory and IT improvements,” in order to ensure the challenge of serving the operations of the new port hub, according to the tax authority.
“The Customs and Tax Administration will have the necessary areas and infrastructure within the port terminal to ensure its work. This includes spaces for the installation of units and equipment, allowing the control and facilitation of foreign trade to be carried out efficiently and safely,” Sunat said.
The government’s goal is to make Peru’s central coast a key hub for trade between South America and Asia. Shipments leaving or entering from the Cosco terminal will take no more than 25 days to reach China, much less than the transit currently carried out with stops in North America.
It should be noted that the launch of the new megaport – with entirely private capital – is a key initiative for the economic development of Peru, which takes advantage of the competitive advantages of our coastline, considering that it has a natural depth of 17.8 meters, which allows the reception of deep-draft ships, which can transport more than 18,000 containers.
