BCRP launches one-sol coin for the 200 years of the National Library of Peru

The Central Reserve Bank (BCRP) put into circulation since Thursday a silver coin commemorating the bicentennial of the National Library of Peru.

The BCRP defines the National Library as a symbol of resilience in the face of adverse times and a meeting place for great Peruvian intellectuals, “whose contribution to national academic and educational development is invaluable.”

They also add that this institution, which also protects the country’s historical memory, guarantees the population’s access to information and culture.

Details

The obverse of the coin features the Coat of Arms, the text: Banco Central de Reserva del Perú, the year of minting: 2021, and the denomination in letters: a sol.

While on the reverse, a composition of the front of the old building of the National Library of Peru is exhibited in the center. On the sides of the coin the texts: 200 Years and National Library of Peru.

Said currency is legal tender and can be purchased on the Bank’s Sales Portal: https://tiendavirtual.bcrp.gob.pe/tiendabcrp/ at an initial price of 149 soles.
