MTC: “Puerto de Chancay has a progress of 76%”

The Minister of Transportation and Communications, Raúl Pérez-Reyes, assured that the works in the Port of Chancay are 76% advanced, and by November of this year, they will be completed.

“This is a port that has a set of works that allow boosting exports and imports. It is a port that will fulfill the role of a concentrator port for national and also regional cargo in the Pacific part of Latin America,” said the official.

He highlighted that the Chancay megaport will compete with the ports of Long Beach (Los Angeles, United States) and Manzanillo (Mexico).

Pérez-Reyes noted that the port terminal will boost the commercial relationship between Peru and Brazil, as well as their shipments to the Asian market. The Brazilian cargo “will be an important component,” he mentioned.

Complementary works: Line 3 and Line 4

The minister pointed out that Metro lines 3 and 4 will connect more than 2 million people in Lima, and with the commuter trains from the capital to Ica and Barranca, there will be a greater impact.

“I believe that together with the ports of Chancay, Paita, Lima and Matarani, an important axis of port development will be established that will allow Peru to position itself in the world of international trade in a better way,” he said.

When will the controversy between APN and Cosco be resolved?

Gustazo Adrianzén, president of the Council of Ministers, pointed out that the controversy between the National Port Authority (APN) and Cosco Shipping will be resolved “in a good way” this week or next; and added that the port of Chancay will be inaugurated “with the expected conditions” in November of this year.
