The chain of supermarkets and hypermarkets Tottus requested the lifting of the precautionary measure filed by the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), which prevents the marketing and distribution of its “traditional recipe Panettone.”
According to the store belonging to the Falabella Group, which maintains 89 stores in Peru and 69 in Chile, the measure taken by Indecopi is not “suitable” since the lot used for the analysis expired on December 11 and, therefore, Therefore, “it is not in commercialization.”
In this sense, Tottus assured that the analysis carried out by the company in the Pacific Control SAC laboratory does have a validity until April 2022, and guarantees that said product has less than 0.01 grams of trans fat per 100 grams of fat.
“Parameters that comply with the provisions of the current standard and that, technically, mean that there are no trans fats in the product,” the supermarket said in a statement.
In addition, he denounced that the impediment ordered by Indecopi would generate a “very large social impact” and would precede the loss of no less than 4 million panettone, between products and supplies, translated into 1,800 tons for, presumably, not complying with current regulations.
“Respectful of the authorities, to date we have been complying with the precautionary measure and we are willing to continue collaborating with the investigation. We trust that our arguments will be evaluated to once again have our panettone within the reach of all Peruvians, “said Tottus.
