The strike of technical workers and operators of the Camisea Consortium, which had to be observed from today, March 13, will have a break after the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) requested more time to mediate with the company Pluspetrol. This Wednesday the negotiation continues, which seeks to avoid impacts on the supply of natural gas.
The company has around 700 workers, but about 400 of them are administrative staff who operate from Lima. The others are the technicians who remain confined in the jungle of La Convencion, in addition to their peers from Pisco. Thus, union members reach 255, close to 90% of field operators.
The controversy begins because Pluspetrol decides to vary, by 2024, the salary increase scale that is applied each year based on previous inflation. The company has offered extraordinary bonuses, but the workers have not agreed.
71% of the Peruvian energy matrix is fossil: oil (41%), natural gas (28%) and coal 2.4%. Renewables only contribute 4%. According to researcher Alejandro Narváez, the 2018-2022 net profit remained around 20% on average with respect to total income.
