New Jorge Chávez airport: what will be its new main entrance and what is missing to be inaugurated?

He new Jorge Chávez airport It will be inaugurated this December 18. With an investment of 2 billion dollars by Lima Airport Partners (LAP), this project will be unique in South America due to its large size, variety of stores and cutting-edge technology to improve the passenger experience and baggage management. .

However, with 80% of the work advanced and an opening date, Lima Airport Partners reports that there is a very important detail to cover before the new terminal opens its doors: the highway that guides to its new main entrance.

What needs to be built at the new Jorge Chávez airport?

Lima Airports points out that the construction of this new airport is advanced, because it is in the process of placing finishes in some areas, the baggage collection system is already operational and only the check-in process would be pending; However, for the work to be 100% operational, the roads that connect the airport with the Santa Rosa bridge still need to be included, which is not yet under construction and will only be inaugurated in 2027.

“The State is in a situation of non-compliance. The State should have built the Santa Rosa bridge in 2021, and what the Minister (of Transport) proposed yesterday, who had already proposed it last year, is a mitigation measure. That means that they are going to put Bailey bridges for access to the airport, which will be linked to Santa Rosa Avenue,” said Juan José Salmón, manager of Lima Airport, in an interview with Canal N.

These two modular bridges will be at the intersection of Morales Duárez avenues and the airport, while the works to establish permanent access last. The idea is that they do not become a permanent solution and that they can eventually be replaced with the Santa Rosa Bridge work.

What will be the new main entrance to the new Jorge Chávez airport?

The manager of Lima Airports also announced that once the new air terminal is inaugurated, the main entrance to the Jorge Chávez airport will be on Av. Morales Duarez and no longer the av. Elmer Faucett, as he is today; However, it is not yet known exactly which roads will provide access to it.

“The ministry has told us that it is making a detour plan together with the National Police, during the years in which the Santa Rosa bridge is ready,” said Juan José Salmón.

This is how the new ‘Airport City’ will be divided
